What you'll do
We are looking for a highly motivated Data Architect to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will help establish strong data architecture and data governance practices that enable the business to use data more effectively to drive decision-making, enhance client service, and improve operational efficiency.
As Data Architect, you will be responsible for developing and delivering Miller’s data strategy, ensuring robust architectural patterns are in place and aligned to the company’s wider business objectives. You will also lead the development and execution of Miller’s data governance strategy, making sure it supports organisational goals and promotes consistent, effective data management across the business.
Working closely with senior management and key stakeholders across IT, legal, compliance, and risk, you will help define and embed data governance policies, standards, and procedures. You will lead the architectural and governance activities of the data team, establishing best practice and supporting analysts and engineers in the delivery of high-quality data products. You will also collaborate with Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure data solutions across IT and the wider business align with agreed standards and principles.
A key part of the role will be to establish strong data governance principles across the data team and build wider awareness of effective data solution governance. You will ensure the governance framework remains aligned to organisational objectives and compliance requirements while adapting to emerging industry trends. This will include a focus on data classification, ownership, and quality control.
You will support the wider organisation in implementing and adhering to data governance practices, helping to ensure data integrity, interoperability, accuracy, and consistency across relevant systems and processes. You will also manage and maintain a data catalogue, documenting data assets, critical data elements, data flows, and data lineage. As a member of the wider architecture community, you will contribute to the establishment of forums that monitor and audit solutions across IT and the wider organisation, as well as document data journeys across operational, analytical, and integration service layers.
In addition, you will provide guidance and support to business units on data-related projects, keep up to date with relevant regulations, best practice, and emerging trends in data governance, and assess their impact on the insurance sector and the organisation’s data management practices. You will also support the Head of Data in building data maturity and confidence both within the team and across the organisation.
We are looking for someone with proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related discipline, together with experience of data governance tools and technologies. A bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field would be desirable. Experience within an insurance organisation would also be an advantage.
