Another successful Lloyd’s North American Broker Academy took place in September. Here Miller's Clair Duffy shares what our North American visitors got up to.

In early September, Miller once again participated in the hugely successful week-long Lloyd’s North American Broker Academy.

The programme provides a broad and in-depth London market experience, including first-hand insight into how Lloyd’s works, class of business-specific sessions, time with underwriters on a Lloyd’s underwriting box and a team challenge. This is an annual event and is integrated with the ‘Lloyd’s Boot Camp’, which is designed as an introduction to Lloyd’s for those newer to the industry.

There were 41 visitors from the US and Canada from coverholders, wholesale and retail intermediaries, geographic regions and lines of business, selected by firms as rising stars. Their industry experience is typically 5 to 10 years.

This year's Broker Academy

The welcome event took place on Sunday evening at The Swan on the Thames, near Shakespeare’s Globe. With glorious weather, programme participants were given a wonderful introduction to London.

On Monday, Miller’s Chief Executive Greg Collins took part in the CEO roundtable alongside Andrew Horton (Beazley), Andy Bragoli (RKH) and Kate Markham (Hiscox). This was the first session of the week and gave participants an insight into the Lloyd’s market. Monday evening saw a social event of darts at Flight Club, where the Lloyd’s Broker Academy group formed teams and competed against each other.

During the week, participants went shadow broking and attended various Academy sessions.

Feedback from our North American guests has been tremendously positive and we are already anticipating next year’s event!
