Multi-lines for commodity trader

Miller's 'One Team' approach delivered quick turnaround for a prominent commodity trader.

Miller’s Credit & Political Risks team in Geneva was approached in February to provide a comprehensive cover package for a prominent commodity trader’s oil cargoes, and associated liabilities for the chartered vessels upon which their cargoes would be carried.

Arnaud Froideval, Miller's Head of CPRI Europe and Switzerland, coordinated an expert team across our Marseille, Geneva and London offices, to work at pace with the client to obtain the information required to approach markets for terms. The first shipment would require coverages to be bound by the coming Monday, within just three working days.

By close of play on Friday, 48 hours after the initial call with the client, Miller had bound most of the Cargo capacity required at very competitive terms, obtaining quotations for Charterers‘ Liability from a diverse range of providers and a wide variety of terms and conditions for the client’s consideration. After further discussion with the client, we received instructions to proceed with binding both coverages, which were confirmed by insurers in time for the first cargo and chartered vessel declarations the following day.

This demonstrated Miller’s unique 'One Team' approach, where seamless collaboration and communication across regional offices ensured that specialist expertise could be swiftly engaged to deliver comprehensive client solutions, no matter how tight the deadline. This remains a key differentiator in addressing complex challenges and exceeding client expectations.

Cargo

Collaboration, proactive thinking and expert risk knowledge delivers for long-term client.

Miller’s Cargo team in Marseille worked successfully to assist a commodity trading arm of a European energy company, with an international natural gas and power sales portfolio.

The team were able to analyse the client’s strategy to expand European imports of LNG and demonstrate their expertise around the real-world implications of changes in insurance and understanding of technical industry risks (e.g. the highlight structured nature of LNG trading), to best protect the client.

The strategy was built out to include a Cargo Insurance policy, followed by a Charterers Liability policy, then we deployed the expert team in our Geneva office specialising in Credit Risks.

What this case study shows is how Miller is structured to work collaboratively with clients on their strategy, to be truly considered an extension of our clients’ teams, to move quickly and anticipate change – combined with an in-depth technical understanding of the clients’ risk profile and trends – and place optimal coverage for the client.

New Major Injury and Career Ending Policy launched for professional female footballers.

In recent years, women's football has experienced a remarkable rise. In Europe, the number of professional female players exceeds 3,500, and major events such as the World Cup generate revenues of more than USD 500 million.

Miller’s new Major Injury and Career Ending Policy directly results from our team's collaboration, expertise, and dedication to providing players with the support they need during challenging times. This policy is exclusively available through Miller, offering tailored protection that is not available elsewhere.

Key policy features include:

  • 24-hour, worldwide coverage, protecting players on and off the field and ensuring comprehensive protection even on international duty.
  • If an insured’s career ends prematurely through accidental bodily injury or illness, this policy pays a lump sum based on estimated future earnings. In the case of accidental death, the benefit is to be paid to the player's named beneficiary.
  • Helps cover the associated medical costs for players with serious injuries that require reconstructive surgery. Players not covered by a private medical scheme through their club can claim up to £10,000 for medical costs, those who are covered by their club can still claim up to £5,000 for additional treatment, giving them access to the highest quality care and recovery possible.

Renewable Energy and Construction

Miller places the construction programme for the world’s largest PV Solar and Battery Storage Project.

Whilst not in Europe, we wanted to bring this success to your attention, as it demonstrates the specialist capabilities of Miller in the rapidly developing Renewable Energy sector and close collaboration alongside our Construction teams based in London and Singapore.

The combined team completed the construction placement for a major solar energy subsidiary of a group based in the Philippines. Teams across Miller also collaborated to successfully complete third party liability, project cargo and political violence placements. The project represents a sizeable US$2.3 billion investment in a hybrid photovoltaic solar (3,500 MW) and energy storage (4,500 MWhr) system. This ambitious endeavour promises to deliver clean, reliable energy to an estimated 2.4 million households.

This placement posed a significant market capacity risk, pushing the limits of the commercial availability capacity of the construction reinsurance market for Philippine Cat. However, through the collaborative efforts of our Singapore and London offices, we were able to attract approximately 30 markets to the programme. Consequently, we have placed the largest recorded Cat Aggregate for a renewables project in the Philippines.

Why they chose Miller

Miller was able to evidence not only the necessary level of expertise and market clout to obtain the high limits needed, but to show the cohesive nature of the way we work on the largest and most complex risks worldwide.

Please contact us for advice and support on any renewable energy (construction, operational or de-commissioning) risks.
