Ian leads Miller’s Energy Construction team and is responsible for developing business both from established relationships and channels, and from new sources in the UK and internationally.

During his 40+ year career in energy insurance, Ian has assisted clients across the oil and gas spectrum, working with clients of every type and size, including international, national, and independent oil companies, and drilling contractors.

From early in his career, Ian has specialised in offshore construction insurance and has designed and placed the insurance programmes for many of the largest and most innovative oil and gas projects ever undertaken. These include a concrete platform that holds the record for the largest object ever moved by Man, and the world’s first Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility.

Ian commenced his career in 1977 and has held senior positions across several London market brokers before joining Miller in July 2018.

Ian has a degree in Politics from the University of Warwick, and has spoken at a number of the energy insurance industry’s major conferences. He is a member of Amnesty International and in his spare time plays the guitar.

What does he like best about construction insurance?

“Each project is unique and in the oil and gas industry, there are frequent challenges presented by new technologies, e.g. floating LNG facilities, and extreme environments such as ultra-deep water. Such projects can also challenge the limits of market capacity, presenting a different set of placement challenges.”
