This week we are pleased to bring you an insightful article on the evolution of modern British design.

Bonhams is a privately owned international auction house established over 200 years ago. They hold over 400 specialist sales annually in 60 different categories across the globe.

This article features an essay on the concept of 'contemporary' design, and the conflict between Tradition and Modernity, written by Lesley Jackson, writer, curator and design historian specialising in 20th century and post-war design as well as contemporary craft and design.

Lesley details works from the likes of Robin Day, Tom Dixon and Alvar Aalto, which have recently sold under Bonhams auctions.
