University never really appealed to me so whilst at school I began researching alternatives. After speaking with friends, family and teachers, I decided to apply for Miller’s Insurance Apprenticeship.
From the very start I was involved in some really interesting and substantial claims. One of the most memorable involved a collision between a client’s ship and a Royal Navy Submarine!
The variety and unexpected nature of claims adds real excitement to my role; you never know when an incident will occur or what the impact will be. Settling claims effectively and efficiently is fundamental to the service Miller offers, and, it has to be said, I take great pride in playing my part in that.
The dynamic and ever-changing nature of my role and the growing complexity of my work really challenges me. This is something I feel my growing experience and technical knowledge empowers me to embrace with confidence.

Combining study and work
Since joining Miller I’ve been working towards professional insurance qualifications as part of my apprenticeship. These have been tailored to my claims role and nicely complement my on the job learning.
Backed with support from my apprenticeship coach and Miller’s learning and development team I completed my CII Certificate in Insurance by the end of my first year and I’m now working hard towards becoming Diploma qualified.
It’s fair to say the continued success with my studies has given me enormous confidence in my role and hopefully added credibility amongst my peers.
