2013 - What does the future hold?

Raising money on behalf of The Prince’s Trust

Miller were asked at the beginning of 2012 if they would like to enter a team in The Prince’s Trust’s annual Million Makers Corporate Challenge. Having been provided with £1,500 in seed funding, each team in the competition devised their own way of raising a minimum of £10,000.

The team of 12 from Miller devised a range of projects which aimed to raise enough money to surpass this figure. These included a cycle ride sponsored by Ascot from London to Cardiff, an electronic silent auction and a selection of cakes in the Lloyd’s café.

In addition to this, the team produced an insurance themed supplement for which they invited members of the London insurance market to write and sponsor articles. The theme of the supplement was ‘2013 – what does the future hold’ and it aimed to touch on what the future might have in store for the insurance industry. The publication was distributed in Insurance Day on 31 January 2013 and contained articles from the following contributors:

  • Catlin Group Limited
  • Chaucer
  • Jubilee Managing Agency Limited
  • Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe Limited
  • R&Q MGA Limited
  • Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
  • Thomas Miller

The generosity of these contributors was matched by their suppliers who enabled the team to keep their production costs to a minimum and therefore maximise the generous sponsorship they received:

  • Insurance Day (distribution)
  • The Color Company (print)
  • Derek Brandon (typesetting and artwork)

The supplement and other projects helped Team Miller to raise in excess of £40,000 on behalf of The Prince’s Trust, a sum that will be invested in changing young lives for the better. An estimated £10 million in national productivity is lost every day as a result of youth unemployment and The Prince’s Trust performs an important role in educating and training young people in order to give them the opportunities they deserve.
