PD359: Senior Claims Broker/Technician - Marine
(Hull & Machinery)

Job Purpose:

To provide a prompt, accurate and efficient claims service to the Marine Business Unit, for the benefit of Miller, its clients and markets.

Principal Accountabilities:

- Ensure the requirements of external legislation and regulations, company best practice and other general business compliance procedures are adhered to at all times

- Promote Miller brand and values to enhance Miller's reputation in the market

- Ensure a swift response and settlement of claims, whilst constantly reviewing service standards, including setting appropriate personal priorities.

- Provide documentation for processing and payment of claims

- Responsible for negotiating and adjustment of claims with underwriters/clients

- Maintain and update localised in-house systems (claims post book, stats and TWINS tracking). Use of market electronic claim collection and advisory systems

- Ensure that a clear line of communication is maintained with the administration and placing team with regards claims related issues, to sustain an efficient processing environment

- Provide assistance when required by way of provision of figures and/or other information to Placing and Accounts department

- Escalate any service related complaints to the Claims Manager to ensure they are addressed promptly and appropriately using the agreed complaints procedure

- Provide advice to clients where required in respect of claims matters.

- Perform assigned responsibilites as delegated by more senior members of the team.

- Delegate work to more junior members of the team as appropriate.

- Provide supervisory and training assistance for more junior members of the section, as appropriate.

Qualifications

Preferably studying towards a CII Qualification

Knowledge:

- Good knowledge and experience of Hull & Machinery claims

- Knowledge of relevant markets used, e.g. Lloyds, London, Overseas

- Knowledge of relevant products within the particular class of business and the appropriate underwriters for that class

- Knowledge and application of approving regulation and statutory requirements

- Thorough understanding of relevant insurance laws, the technical aspects of various insurance policies and the fundamentals and procedures of advising on insurance

- Understanding of what is conferred by confirmation of cover to clients and underwriters

- Able to analyse and advise on claims

- Maintain strong relationships with relevant markets

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Able to prepare and maintain accurate and precise reports and records

- Able to work as part of a team

- Ability to prioritise own workload

- Eye for detail, methodical and highly organised

- Able to work under pressure and to strict deadlines

- Approachable and able to anticipate reaction of clients, especially in shock situations such as personal injury and catastrophe events, to be sympathetic, understanding and supportive

- Advanced/intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

- Detailed and high level of proficiency in relevant Miller insurance computer systems, including Flex and/or TWINS
